An independent corporate advocacy group
A stronger corporate voice for our district.

A Business Improvement Area is a City of Toronto agency that brings commercial property owners and non-residential tenants together to improve and promote their neighbourhood. Yonge North York has its own BIA, serving businesses and workplaces within a defined boundary.
The BIA works on shared local priorities such as public spaces, district promotion, economic development and safety. Its board helps guide the work and budget.
Commercial and industrial property owners and qualifying non-residential tenants within the boundary are members. Your company may already belong through its office tenancy, even if nobody manages that relationship yet.
Check the official boundary mapA special levy on commercial and industrial properties in the area funds the BIA’s approved budget. This is separate from the independent coalition. There is no charge to request coalition information or attend an introductory briefing.
The relevant member is the qualifying property owner or tenant, not each employee. The City and YNY BIA confirm official membership and voting eligibility.
Any employee of a BIA member organization that owns or leases office space within the district can be chosen to represent their organization at YNYCC and the YNY BIA, subject to their employer’s authorization. This can be an employee at any level; an executive or managerial title is not required. For official BIA participation, a corporate member must formally appoint its representative and meet the BIA’s eligibility, documentation and AGM registration requirements.
Why it matters at work
These are starting points for discussion. Participants can bring the local issues that matter to their workplaces.
Safer streets and public spaces for employees, clients and visitors.
A place to discuss transit, construction, deliveries and walking access.
Local connections and amenities that support the experience of working here.
Relationships with neighbouring employers, building managers and businesses.
Learn first. Choose your next step.
YNYCC helps employers, employees and building partners understand the BIA, share workplace priorities and bring a collective corporate voice to district discussions.
Ask a question or express interest in a 30-minute introductory briefing. You can enquire in your own capacity; company approval is not needed just to learn.
If the coalition is useful to your organization, identify a company contact and seek any internal approvals. Membership terms and any future fees will be confirmed separately.
An eligible BIA member can appoint a representative for the Annual General Meeting. Membership verification, authorization and registration follow the BIA’s official process.
Requesting information does not enrol your company, authorize you to represent it, register you for the AGM or endorse a candidate. Board candidacy is a separate application and service commitment.
Tuesday, November 17, 2026
The Annual General Meeting is the formal meeting of the BIA’s members. Members review BIA business, and eligible, authorized representatives can vote on AGM agenda items. The agenda has not yet been finalized and is expected to be published in early October 2026.
If your organization is an eligible member, an appropriately authorized representative has an opportunity to participate on its behalf. The board serves the whole BIA membership and helps guide work that affects the district’s businesses, employers and employees.
Use the official boundary map, then confirm the organization’s BIA membership.
Choose an appropriate colleague and obtain the required company authorization.
Complete the YNY BIA’s registration and evidence requirements by its deadline.
An eligible, registered representative can participate and vote on AGM agenda items on November 17.
